A compact, accurate and affordable fixed-line blue laser scanning sensor
The HP-L-5.8 makes it easy and affordable to add the speed and measurement coverage of laser scanning to new and existing CMMs.
Like other HP-L laser scanners, the HP-L-5.8 turns a CMM into a multisensor machine that combines traditional tactile probing with optical measurement, such as freeform surface capture, in a single part program.
Designed for use with a wide range of applications and measurement surfaces, the HP-L-5.8 fixed-line blue laser scanning sensor is accurate whether surfaces are very dark or shiny. Its compact form also makes it suitable for creating point clouds where workpiece accessibility is restricted and with smaller CMMs. And its rugged design protects the sensor from damage by collisions and vibrations.
The HP-L-5.8 comes equipped with Hexagon’s Kinematic Joint and is compatible with existing Hexagon probe heads and accessories, including automatic sensor changing racks and extensions.
All HP-L laser scanners conform to the latest ISO 10360-8:2013 standard. The measurements rely on traceable sphere and plane artefacts. Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence also supplies the necessary artefacts – certified by an accredited laboratory – for on-site verification of sensor results, to provide the highest confidence in optical probing.

Accuracy You Can Trust
The sensor conforms to the latest ISO 10360-8:2013 standard for optical distance sensors.
Blue Line Laser Scanning
The fixed blue laser line makes it possible to capture up to 900 points per line, with a measurement frequency of up to 40Hz or 36,000 points per second.
Compatible with Existing Hexagon CMMs, Software and Accessories
HP-L-5.8 is fully supported by PC-DMIS 2018 R2 and subsequent versions. It comes with either an AutoJoint connector or a TKJ connector, making it compatible with existing Hexagon probe heads and sensor racks.
Rugged and Compact Design The HP-L-5.8 combines a compact design with a short nominal working distance to the surface (100 mm to 180 mm), making it ideal for use with small CMMs in areas where accessibility is restricted. And its very robust design protects the sensor from damage by collisions or vibrations.
